How Impact Ink helped bring Katie Rickson’s lived experience with bipolar to business.

Katie Rickson

Lived experience speaker and copywriter and all round good-egg.

the collaborator: katie rickson

For anyone that’s seen Katie on LinkedIn, you’ll know that she is an accomplished writer, funny as heck, and that she has bipolar.  If you haven’t seen her in action, you should – this is a woman who can really spin a great yarn; a valuable skill for a copywriter…

One of Katie’s superpowers is her transparent conversation about her experiences of being a ‘solopreneur’ who is also a lived-experience speaker.  In her own words:

“I am on a mission to raise awareness of bipolar and reduce stigma. You can book me to share my lived experience of mental health recovery, what it means to live with a diagnosis, finding your village, what works for you and much more.”

More information available here and you can read about her experiences here.

Katie’s message about mental health recovery is poised and ready to be delivered to businesses looking to support their people (both those who may have bipolar, and those working or living alongside someone who does).   Katie sought Impact Ink’s support to position her lunch-and-learn effectively to the business audience.  She needed a strategic approach to structure, pricing, and communication to ensure her offering was clear, compelling, and accessible to corporate audiences.  We relish the opportunity to link Good Mahi in with good business – so we jumped at the opportunity to offer our pal a hand.

the challenge: Positioning a powerful message for business impact.

Katie’s lunch-and-learn is built on authenticity, personal insight, and practical strategies—but translating that into a business-friendly offering required fine-tuning.

Some key challenges identified:
🪜 Structuring the proposal in a way that businesses could immediately see its value.
💰 Simplifying pricing options to make decision-making easy for organisations.
🎯 Refining the language to ensure it was targeted at corporate and mid-sized businesses.
📢 Strengthening the call to action so that businesses knew exactly how to book.

The Impact Ink approach: Strategic refinement & impactful communication

Impact Ink worked with Katie to enhance her proposal and delivery strategy, ensuring it was positioned effectively for corporate engagement.

We focused on:
Reframing the introduction → Immediate clarity about why businesses need this lunch-and-learn and the impact it can have.
Restructuring the proposal → Deliver the business case upfront, followed by pricing and content details.
Clarifying the pricing tiers → A simple “waterfall” structure for quick, easy comparison.
Strengthening the call to action → Clear next steps section so businesses knew how to book.
Visual and design enhancements → Suggestions for infographics, pricing tables, and professional imagery to make the proposal stand out.

The output: a high value business offering

As a result of this collaboration, Katie’s Lived Experience Lunch-and-Learn is now positioned as a high-value business offering, making it easier for companies to see the direct benefits of investing in mental health awareness.

A well-structured proposal that resonates with corporate clients
A clear pricing strategy that removes friction in decision-making
Stronger messaging that speaks directly to business needs
A professional, action-driven approach to booking and engagement

🌱 With these refinements, Katie is now well-equipped to bring her expertise to more workplaces, creating lasting change in how businesses support employees with bipolar.

✅ Lived experience storytelling is powerful—but it needs the right structure to land with corporate audiences.
✅ Clarity in pricing, structure, and calls to action makes it easier for businesses to say ‘yes.’
✅ Small strategic tweaks can elevate an offering from ‘great idea’ to ‘business-ready solution.’

  • A word or two, straight from Katie’s keyboard:

“I have a lunch-and-learn service, which I offer to corporates and SMEs. I approached Haemia as I wanted guidance on improving my brochure's content to better speak to a corporate audience. I knew Haemia would be able to assist because of her background and expertise in corporate and social responsibility. I was really impressed by the report Haemia sent me, which detailed the brochure's strengths and areas for improvement. Haemia took both a strategic approach - looking at how effective the brochure was as a whole - and a granular approach - giving me specific information around the word choices, headings and formatting to appeal to a corporate audience. Haemia's report was well-presented and easy-to-follow. Thanks Haemia for your help - I now feel a lot more confident sending my brochure to prospective clients.”
